First Tee — Greater Detroit is looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and caring coaches to help further our mission
of delivering life skills through the game of golf to youth in the Greater Detroit area. Coaches will serve as
positive mentors and role models to young people of various backgrounds.

About Our Program:

First Tee exists to enable kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of
new challenges. At First Tee – Greater Detroit, we partner with schools, parents, and the community to
provide evidence-based curricula for participants to achieve successful outcomes for their future. The
Greater Detroit chapter is part of a national youth development organization, First Tee, focused on instilling
life-enhancing values in children through the game of golf.

Nine Core Values:

Honesty – Integrity – Sportsmanship – Respect – Confidence – Responsibility – Perseverance – Courtesy – Judgement

Nine Healthy Habits

Physical: Energy – Play – Safety | Emotional: Vision – Mind – Family | Social: Friends – School – Community

What will Coaches do?

Coaches will deliver the First Tee Golf and Life Skills Curriculum which includes the focus of our Nine Core
Values & Nine Healthy Habits. As a Coach, you are responsible for knowing and understanding the lesson
ahead of time, assisting with the set-up & breaking down of activities, and helping to ensure a safe learning
environment. Comprehensive training and coach development are provided to those interested.

Commitment:

Our programming is centered around the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. The seasonal programs run six
weeks, one day per week, per site. Classes typically meet in the evenings for approximately one hour. We
ask that our coaches commit to an entire six-week period at a specific site. This is crucial to developing and
establishing positive relationships with the participants. If it fits your schedule, we encourage coaches to
attend more than more class.

Responsibilities:

• Learning the curriculum to deliver the best programming possible.
• Staying informed by communicating and responding to chapter emails and correspondence.
• Preparing and setting up for class to ensure adherence to lesson plans.
• Communicate effectively with volunteers, coaches, staff, and families to provide the best experience.
• Required to pass a background check, SafeSport training, and First Tee Assistant Coach Training.
